Overview: Lords of Midgard is a dark fantasy set in an alternate parallel universe where historical places and figures intertwine with fantastical elements.
The narrative unfolds in the mythical realm of Midgard, a world shaped by ancient gods, forbidden powers, and mortal struggles. Central to the story is the Forbidden Void of Creation, a primal energy of creation and destruction, outlawed by the gods for mortal use. The gods, known as the Arbiters of Creation, have unleashed the Great Cleansing, a cataclysmic purge to erase all life and restart Midgard due to humanity’s misuse of the Void.
From gaping purple Void rifts emerge Void Abominations and colossal Void Titans, threatening to annihilate the world. Heroes, outcasts, and abominations navigate this chaos, caught between divine wrath and mortal resilience.Core LoreThe Gift of Magic and the Forbidden VoidIn ancient times, the gods gifted humanity sacred runes, enabling mortals to harness natural magic to strengthen their civilizations.
These runes, used widely by factions like the Celtic-Gallowglass, fostered harmony between mortals and their divine creators. However, the Forbidden Void of Creation, a chaotic and limitless energy reserved solely for the gods, was declared off-limits due to its potential to unravel reality. Humanity’s defiance in harnessing the Void shattered the sacred covenant, triggering the gods’ wrath and the Great Cleansing.
The Fall of AtlantisThe most infamous example of Void misuse is the lost civilization of Atlantis. In an era when most relied on fire and flame, the Atlanteans harnessed the Void through advanced Void technology, achieving unparalleled power—energy, weaponry, and elemental mastery. Their hubris provoked Poseidon, lord of the seas, who sank Atlantis beneath the waves as a warning to Midgard.
The surviving Atlanteans, now living underwater, use Void Crystals to power their Void Tech, sustaining their submerged civilization in defiance of the gods’ prohibition.Void Walkers: Outcasts of MidgardVoid Walkers are the only individuals who wield the Void’s power for personal gain, seeking strength, influence, or forbidden knowledge.
They etch their skin with incantations to channel the Void, risking corruption that could transform them into Void Abominations—grotesque, mindless beings consumed by the Void. To prevent this, they undergo cleansing rituals at Void Temples or sacred sites like the Ancient Temple. Void Walkers are outcasts in Midgard, shunned by most factions, who fear their actions risk invoking divine wrath and repeating Atlantis’s fate.
In Atlantis, however, Void Walkers are honored as guardians vital to survival.Void Hunters: Guardians of BalanceVoid Hunters are dedicated to preserving Midgard’s natural order by tracking and eliminating Void Walkers and closing Void rifts—gaping purple tears in reality leaking chaotic Void energy, from which Void Abominations and Void Titans emerge.
Trained at Void Temples or sacred sites like the Ancient Temple, they master techniques to detect Void energy and seal rifts, believing that the Void’s use will bring divine punishment upon all of Midgard.Void Temples and Ancient TemplesVoid Temples and sacred sites like the Ancient Temple are neutral havens where Void Walkers learn their craft, receive etched incantations, and cleanse corruption through sacred rituals.
Void Hunters train here to study Void energy and rift-closing methods. Aggression is strictly forbidden within their grounds, and violators are banned for life, preserving the sanctity of these sacred sites.Current State of MidgardThe Great Cleansing has plunged Midgard into chaos, with the gods’ wrath manifesting as Void rifts spawning Void Abominations and Void Titans—towering colossi of shadow and fire that threaten to eradicate all life. Most factions avoid the Void, fearing divine retribution akin to Atlantis’s destruction.
The Atlanteans, surviving underwater, are the only faction besides Void Walkers to actively use the Void, powering their civilization with Void Crystals. Void Walkers, reviled as reckless in Midgard but revered in Atlantis, navigate a divided world, finding refuge only in Void Temples or Ancient Temples. The struggle to survive the Great Cleansing drives Midgard’s conflicts, with heroes rising to defy the gods’ judgment.Main Factions

- Seven Dragonrend, the Relentless Berserker: In the quiet village of Fjallheim, nestled among the rugged hills of the North, Seven Dragonrend—once known as Sven, a feared Norse-Viking berserker—had forged a fragile peace. Trading his blood-stained axe for a plow, he lived with his wife, Svala, whose gentle strength soothed his war-weary soul, and their sons, Bram and Egil, who brought him joy. When a dire bear threatened their livestock, Seven set out to hunt it, leaving his family behind. While he was away, the First Voids tore open, unleashing Void Abominations that devastated Fjallheim. Returning with the bear’s head, Seven found his home in ruins and his family slaughtered, their bodies marked by the Void’s horrors. The sight shattered him, reigniting his berserker’s trance with a primal scream of vengeance. A towering figure with blond hair streaked with gray and eyes blazing with rage, Seven became a whirlwind of destruction, wielding an axe and shield etched with enchanted runes to enhance his power against Void Abominations and Void Titans. For over a year, he rampaged across Midgard, slaughtering every Void-born creature in his path, driven by unquenchable grief. Legends spread of the Relentless Berserker, a solitary avenger who fights without rest, his fury a challenge to the gods themselves.
- Kamate Masuki, the Shadow Hunter and Void Slayer: In the shadowed lands of the Ryukyu Islands, Kamate Masuki, known as the Shadow Hunter, rose as a legendary samurai bounty hunter. Born into a powerful Ryukyu-Samurai clan, he was destined to lead like his father but rejected this path after witnessing the chaos caused by unchecked lawlessness. Guided by a personal code to defend the weak and punish the guilty, Kamate became a bounty hunter, collecting bounties on ruthless bandits and corrupt warlords with unmatched skill. His reputation grew as a protector to the people and a relentless specter of death to his enemies. His trusted companion is Oni’s Fang, a magical katana forged by the legendary swordsmith Muramasa and imbued with a vengeful oni’s spirit. Lined with ancient runes, the blade slices through armor and flesh with supernatural precision, capable of capturing the life force of enemies to unleash devastating attacks against multiple foes. When the First Voids opened near a humble Ryukyu village, spewing Void Abominations, Kamate, tracking a bounty nearby, intervened. Alone, he fought for hours, his katana a blur of silver and shadow, saving the village single-handedly. A local monk, sensing Kamate’s powerful chi and foreseeing his legendary destiny, directed him to an Ancient Temple guarded by monks who studied Void energy for generations. There, the temple’s elder taught him the sacred art of the Void Hunter, revealing that Voids are ripples in reality’s fabric and only a warrior of unwavering will can seal them. Through intense meditation, Kamate mastered closing Voids by channeling his strength through Oni’s Fang. Returning to the village, he sealed the rift with a single strike, earning the title Void Slayer. Seeing each Void as a bounty to claim, Kamate embraced his new purpose. Hearing of Eros Valhas and his Titan Slayers in Sparta, Kamate left the Ryukyu Islands, embarking on a perilous voyage to join their fight against Void Titans, his blade ready for its ultimate test.
- Calypso, Siren of Lost Atlantis: Beneath the endless waves, where darkness reigns, lies Atlantis—a city of marvels powered by Void Crystals. Unlike in Midgard, where Void Walkers are outcasts, in Atlantis they are honored as guardians. Calypso, known as the Siren of Lost Atlantis, is a figure born of tragedy and shaped by sacrifice. Her parents, Theron and Lyra, were revered Void Walkers: Theron, a warrior of unmatched skill with incantations glowing with dark power, and Lyra, a sage and healer mastering the Void’s dual forces. During a cataclysmic Titan Void rupture, they fought a Void Titan and its swarm to protect Atlantis, but succumbed to corruption, becoming Void Abominations. Calypso, their only child, was forced to slay them, an act of mercy that left her marked by sorrow and resolve. Born of the Void when Lyra consumed its creative energy, Calypso emerged with Void Crystal-like eyes and natural incantations on her skin, amplifying her Void Walker abilities. Revered as a symbol of hope in Atlantis, she wields void energies and her siren’s voice to command or confound foes, cleansing corruption at Void Temples to avoid her parents’ fate. Driven by duty, Calypso ascends to Midgard to combat Void rifts, protect its people, and change their view of Atlantis and Void Walkers, aiming to bridge the divide between the worlds and honor her parents’ legacy.
- Eros Valhas, Spartan General Titan Slayer: In the shadowed realm of Midgard, amidst the gods’ Great Cleansing, Eros Valhas stands as the highest-ranking Spartan General and leader of the Titan Slayers, an elite legion forged to hunt Void Titans. Clad in magical bronze armor etched with battle scars, Eros embodies Sparta’s unbreakable spirit, his piercing gaze reflecting a soul tempered by discipline and resolve. Tasked by the Spartan King to “ensure the safety of our kin and the people of Midgard” and “fight to the very last breath,” Eros leads his warriors against the colossal Void Titans—towering colossi of shadow and fire emerging from massive Void rifts. The toll of this war is brutal, with countless comrades fallen, their broken shields haunting Eros. Yet, he remains unwavering, driven by duty to his king and people. Before each battle, he rallies his Titan Slayers with a commanding cry: “We are Spartans. We are the blade that carves hope from despair. The gods may try to cleanse Midgard, but we will defy their wrath.” His leadership against impossible odds inspires figures like Kamate Masuki, and Eros’s path is one of unrelenting sacrifice, determined to defy the gods or make Midgard his grave.
- Xan Khan, the Persian Immortal Warrior: In the ancient lands where the empires of Persia and Turkey wove their histories, Xan Khan, son of a Persian general and a Turkish noblewoman, was born of dual heritage. Raised in the shadow of his father, a legendary general of the Persian Immortal Army, Xan trained relentlessly to become an Immortal Warrior, his hands bleeding and muscles aching to match his father’s legacy. Mastering the blade and excelling with the bow, Xan’s true prowess shone on his warhorse, Rahad, a black stallion clad in dark armor. At full gallop, Xan could loose ten arrows with bullseye accuracy, a skill that awed warriors and onlookers. When the First Voids opened, unleashing Void Abominations, Xan witnessed his father’s legion battle the horrors. A Void Hunter, wielding a magical bow from ancient ruins, sealed the rift with a glowing arrow, inspiring Xan. After the battle, his father passed the bow to him, declaring the Voids his destiny. Clad in dark blue armor with bronze features, Xan rode across Midgard on Rahad, the magical bow at his side. Channeling incantations through the bow, he closes Void rifts and slays Abominations, determined to forge his own legend as a Void Hunter, surpassing his father’s shadow and protecting Midgard from the Great Cleansing’s scourge.
